Despite its widespread popularity, the UPI adoption in India reveals significant disparities based on gender, geography, and economic status. Prosperous states like Maharashtra lead in transaction volumes, recording over 6 billion UPI transactions between April and June 2025. Other leading states include Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. However, large parts of the economy still rely heavily on cash, indicating an uneven digital payment revolution across the country.
