US Midterms Could Usher In Historic Firsts For Diverse Candidates

This midterm election has presented a diverse slate of candidates, potentially leading to historic firsts in leadership roles across the United States. Voters have elected the first openly gay male U.S. senator and could elect the first Native American female governor, Native women senators, the first Black female governor, and the first Muslim U.S. senator. While many of these candidates are Democrats, some Republicans could also break new ground.
