M Chitra, a 27-year-old woman rescued from bonded labour in 2023, is set to cast her first vote. After enduring two years of exploitative conditions at a chemical-processing unit, Chitra and her husband are rebuilding their lives and supporting others facing similar exploitation. Despite receiving a release certificate, they are still awaiting government rehabilitation assistance and are seeking help to secure housing. Their ordeal began after financial difficulties led them to accept a job with promises of good pay and accommodation, which quickly turned into a debt trap.
