Russia's Kosmos-2612 Satellite Maneuvered Dangerously Close to Another

Russia's military satellite, Kosmos-2612, maneuvered to within approximately 500 meters of the ICEYE-X36 radar satellite, which provides imagery to Ukraine. The close approach occurred around October 17-18 at an altitude of 547 kilometers. This behavior is unusual and has raised concerns, as ICEYE's radar satellites can capture images day or night and through cloud cover. While the exact distance is debated, some reports suggest it was as close as 26 meters. This incident is seen as a potential show of force and could disrupt operations of the targeted satellite.
