The Hindu · india

The Idukki district administration and Forest department in Kerala are proceeding to clear natural elephant passages in Chinnakkanal, despite opposition from farmer groups and political parties. This initiative aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict, which has led to 81 deaths and 486 injuries over the past decade. Officials have reopened a passage previously blocked by a fence, allowing a tusker named Chakkakompan to move freely. Three primary obstructed passages have been identified, and plans are underway to capture and translocate two problematic elephants.
