भारतीय वायु सेना के नए प्रमुख एयर चीफ मार्शल आशुतोष दीक्षित ने अपनी शीर्ष प्राथमिकताओं को बताया है। उन्होंने फाइटर स्क्वाड्रन की स्वीकृत संख्या को बहाल करने और तेजस व AMCA जैसे स्वदेशी प्रोजेक्ट्स को तेज करने पर जोर दिया है। दीक्षित ने 'भारतीय समाधानों' से लड़ने और परिचालन मांगों को पूरा करने के लिए पर्याप्त संख्या बनाए रखने पर भी जोर दिया। उन्होंने सेवाओं के बीच तालमेल को मजबूत करना भी एक प्रमुख लक्ष्य बताया। उनके विजन, VAYU, में सेवाओं में सतर्कता, आत्मनिर्भरता, सामरिक नवाचार और एकता शामिल है। वायु सेना वर्तमान में 42 की स्वीकृत संख्या के मुकाबले 29 स्क्वाड्रन संचालित करती है, जिससे फाइटर की भर्ती एक महत्वपूर्ण फोकस बन गई है।
