Hindustan Times · health
Maharashtra has purchased eight handheld devices costing ₹1.2 crore each to detect counterfeit drugs within its health systems. These machines can identify spurious tablets, syrups, and injections in minutes by comparing sample ingredients against a reference database. Flying squads equipped with these devices will conduct monthly tests at government health facilities across the state. While preliminary testing is done by these devices, final verification will occur at NABL-accredited labs. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and accountability in medicine procurement and supply.
