Argentina Temporarily Closes Iguazu Falls Due To El Niño-Fueled Water Surge
The Guardian · world
Argentinian authorities temporarily closed tourist access to the Iguazu Falls due to a significant surge in water levels caused by heavy rainfall linked to El Niño. The Iguazu River's flow exceeded 12,000 cubic metres per second, more than six times its normal rate, raising concerns about potential flooding. National park officials cited the continuous rain and high water release from upstream dams as reasons for the closure. The park was set to reopen the following day as the river's flow began to gradually decline.
