The Supreme Court has referred the long-standing dispute between Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and the Centre over alleged gas extraction from an ONGC block in the Krishna-Godavari Basin to mediation. The court appointed former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai to facilitate the process, acknowledging the parties' inability to reach a mutual solution. RIL and its partners, BP and Niko, are challenging a Delhi High Court judgment that overturned a ₹14,750-crore arbitral award in their favour.
