Rajya Sabha Poll On October 16 For Vacated

A Rajya Sabha by-election will be held on October 16 to fill the seat vacated by former Trinamool MP Koel Mallick. The date coincides with Durga Shashthi, a key day in the Durga Puja festivities in West Bengal. Mallick resigned from her parliamentary seat on July 16, shortly after the Trinamool's defeat in the Assembly elections. She had been an MP since March but did not attend any parliamentary sessions.
