Indian Banks Seek RBI Clarity and Relief on Rupee Defence Measures
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Indian banks have approached the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) requesting relief and clarity on recent measures implemented to defend the rupee. Lenders, through a forex industry body, are seeking the removal of a mandate requiring a 20% cash deposit for FX derivatives used to hedge current-account exposures. They also want the $2 million threshold for this rule scrapped, fearing it could encourage hedging fragmentation. Banks propose alternative solutions like a flat charge on hedging costs to avoid tying up liquidity.
