The West Bengal government will provide a 50% discount on food items distributed through the public distribution system (PDS) to approximately 2.12 crore families during the upcoming Puja season. This festive package includes 1kg each of sugar and wheat, along with 250g of suji, offered at half their market prices. Previously, only a 10% discount was available to a smaller number of beneficiaries. The state government anticipates an additional expenditure of Rs 114 crore to implement this initiative, significantly expanding the reach of the festive discount compared to previous years.

पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार आने वाले पूजा के मौसम में सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली (PDS) के ज़रिए लगभग 2.12 करोड़ परिवारों को खाद्य पदार्थों पर 50% की छूट देगी। इस त्योहारी पैकेज में बाज़ार भाव से आधी कीमत पर 1 किलो चीनी और 1 किलो गेहूँ के साथ 250 ग्राम सूजी भी शामिल है। पहले, कम लाभार्थियों को केवल 10% की छूट मिलती थी। राज्य सरकार को इस पहल को लागू करने के लिए 114 करोड़ रुपये के अतिरिक्त खर्च का अनुमान है, जिससे पिछले सालों की तुलना में त्योहारी छूट का दायरा काफी बढ़ जाएगा।
