SBI Fixes Software Glitch Blocking ST Status for Christian Applicants

The Hindu · india

The State Bank of India (SBI) has resolved a software glitch that prevented Christian applicants from selecting "Scheduled Tribe" status when opening accounts or completing KYC forms. The Arunachal Christian Forum had complained that the system automatically assigned them to the "General" category based on religion, which they argued was discriminatory. SBI's IT team modified validation logic on its YONO and re-KYC platforms to correct the issue. The forum welcomed the resolution, emphasizing it allows eligible tribal Christians to correctly record their category and religion.
