Officer Fights Gunman Despite Life-Threatening Injuries

An Ontario police officer continued to fight a gunman targeting a synagogue on Yom Kippur, despite suffering multiple life-threatening shotgun wounds to his head and torso. Constable Jeff Smith engaged the attacker for nearly three minutes before a second officer arrived, preventing a potentially unimaginable tragedy. The shooter, Sean Ward, was targeting the Jewish community in a hate-motivated attack and died after the incident. Smith remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
