IMF Defends India's Revised GDP Calculation Method

Times of India · business

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has endorsed India's updated GDP calculation methodology, stating it aligns with good statistical practices and the fund's own recommendations. Krishna Srinivasan, IMF's Asia and Pacific Department director, called the revision a "welcome development," noting the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation's efforts to strengthen GDP statistics. This comes as the IMF raised India's GDP growth forecast for 2026-27 to 7%. The fund also addressed currency pressures, attributing them to external factors rather than domestic economic weakness.
