The Congress party has labelled the Election Commission's response to concerns about the special intensive revision of electoral rolls as a "desperate attempt at damage control." Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that the proposed measures admit the exercise was a "disaster" and that piecemeal steps for deleted voters will not resolve "mass disenfranchisement." He questioned the EC's proposed home visits and the rationale behind the SIR process, which he claimed led to nearly 14 crore voters being asked to reapply for inclusion.

कांग्रेस पार्टी ने चुनावी मतदाता सूची के विशेष गहन संशोधन (SIR) को लेकर उठाई गई चिंताओं पर चुनाव आयोग की प्रतिक्रिया को 'डैमेज कंट्रोल का हताश प्रयास' करार दिया है। कांग्रेस नेता जयराम रमेश ने कहा कि प्रस्तावित उपायों से यह स्वीकार होता है कि यह कवायद 'आपदा' थी और हटाए गए मतदाताओं के लिए छोटे-मोटे कदम 'बड़े पैमाने पर मताधिकार छीनने' की समस्या का समाधान नहीं करेंगे। उन्होंने चुनाव आयोग द्वारा घर-घर जाकर सत्यापन और SIR प्रक्रिया के पीछे के तर्क पर सवाल उठाया, जिसके बारे में उन्होंने दावा किया कि इससे लगभग 14 करोड़ मतदाताओं को फिर से आवेदन करने के लिए कहा गया था।
