13 Years In Jail, Man Confesses To Pole

A Lucknow court has sentenced Siraj to 10 years in jail for stealing 24 telephone poles in 2013. He had already spent approximately 13 years in prison since his arrest. Siraj, who could not afford bail due to poverty, confessed to the crime. The court ordered that the time he has already served be adjusted against his sentence. His co-accused had previously been released on bail. The stolen poles were valued at around ₹50,000.

लखनऊ की एक अदालत ने सिराज को 2013 में 24 टेलीफोन पोल चुराने के आरोप में 10 साल की जेल की सज़ा सुनाई है। अपनी गिरफ्तारी के बाद से वह लगभग 13 साल जेल में बिता चुका था। सिराज, जो गरीबी के कारण ज़मानत का खर्च नहीं उठा सका, ने जुर्म कबूल कर लिया। अदालत ने आदेश दिया कि उसने जो समय जेल में बिताया है, उसे उसकी सज़ा में समायोजित किया जाए। उसके सह-आरोपी पहले ही ज़मानत पर रिहा हो चुके थे। चोरी हुए खंभों की कीमत करीब ₹50,000 थी।
