SC flags voluminous evidence in graft cases

The Supreme Court has expressed concern over prosecuting agencies filing voluminous evidence and naming numerous witnesses in corruption cases, stating it leads to protracted hearings and long pendency. While acquitting a person in a 33-year-old corruption case, a bench noted that such evidence is often intimidating and many aspects are irrelevant to proving guilt. The court highlighted that in one instance, 62 witnesses were examined, but the High Court referred to only nine.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भ्रष्टाचार के मामलों में जांच एजेंसियों द्वारा भारी सबूत पेश करने और कई गवाहों के नाम शामिल करने पर चिंता जताई है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि इससे सुनवाई लंबी खिंचती है और मामले लंबित रहते हैं। 33 साल पुराने एक मामले में एक व्यक्ति को बरी करते हुए बेंच ने कहा कि ऐसे सबूत डराने वाले होते हैं और कई बातें बेमतलब होती हैं। एक मामले में 62 गवाहों की जांच हुई, पर हाई कोर्ट ने सिर्फ नौ का जिक्र किया।
