Paytm Shares Plunge 10%, Erasing Rs 10,970 Crore Market Cap

Paytm's parent company, One 97 Communications, saw its market capitalisation drop by over Rs 10,970 crore on Thursday. The shares briefly crashed 10% to Rs 1,558.80, their lowest since mid-August, pushing the market cap below Rs 1 lakh crore. This sharp selloff was reportedly triggered by news of a potential delay in the introduction of Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions. Analysts had anticipated significant revenue gains for Paytm from the MDR, and the reported deferral to January 1, 2024, dampened investor sentiment.
