Assam CM Clarifies Minister Praised Pro-Talks ULFA Faction, Not Hardliners

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that his cabinet colleague Biswajit Daimary was referring to the pro-talks ULFA faction when praising the militant outfit. Daimary had stated that the ULFA had protected Assam from outside forces for over five decades. Sarma explained that the pro-talks faction, having signed a peace accord, is technically no longer banned, distinguishing it from the Paresh Barua-led hardline group. The peace pact was signed in December 2024, with the pro-talks faction led by Arabinda Rajkhowa.

असम के मुख्यमंत्री हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा ने साफ किया कि उनके कैबिनेट सहयोगी बिस्वजीत দৈমারি ने उग्रवादी संगठन की तारीफ करते हुए प्रो-टॉक (बातचीत करने वाले) उल्फा गुट का जिक्र किया था। দৈমারি ने कहा था कि उल्फा ने पांच दशक से अधिक समय तक असम को बाहरी ताकतों से बचाया है। सरमा ने समझाया कि प्रो-टॉक गुट, जिसने शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं, तकनीकी रूप से अब प्रतिबंधित नहीं है, और यह परेश बरुआ के नेतृत्व वाले कट्टरपंथी समूह से अलग है। शांति समझौता दिसंबर 2024 में हुआ था, जिसमें प्रो-टॉक गुट का नेतृत्व अरविंद राजखोवा कर रहे थे।
