The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted eight weeks of parole to Vipal Jain, a murder convict, to care for his son who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and a 50% disability. The court overturned a district magistrate's rejection, stating that while advanced hospitals exist, many patients require attendants. The bench emphasized that parole should be interpreted liberally, and denial cannot be based on mere conjecture or apprehension of law-and-order issues without objective material. Jain, serving a life sentence, must be released within seven working days.
