Nifty Lags Global Peers Amid AI Boom; Korea, Taiwan Markets Surge
Business Standard Markets · stocks
The Indian Nifty 50 has significantly underperformed global markets over the past year, ranking second-last among 18 major economies. While South Korea's Kospi surged 86.7% and Taiwan's Taiex rose 80.6% driven by AI demand and chipmaker rallies, the Nifty closed down 10.6%. India's top companies saw negative returns, contrasting sharply with the gains in Korea and Taiwan. This lag occurred despite Indian firms' aggregate profits rising, as investors shifted focus to chip manufacturing hubs.
