One Dead, Several Injured in Blast at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Premises

A blast occurred in the Coker Hydrotreater Unit at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) on September 30, 2026, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The deceased, contract worker Manish Karkera (30), was found charred. Another worker sustained 35% burn injuries and is out of danger, while eight others suffered minor injuries. The explosion caused tremors and shattered window panes in nearby buildings. Firefighting efforts successfully brought the blaze under control.
