Google Sends AI Chips To Space In Refrigerator-Sized Satellite For Orbit Tests

Times of India · technology

Google has successfully launched its AI chips into space for the first time aboard a refrigerator-sized satellite. The satellite, carrying four Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), lifted off on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from California. This mission, Project Suncatcher, aims to test the feasibility of running AI data centers in orbit. The satellite is designed to operate for a year, with TPUs running AI models in limited bursts due to heat and power constraints. Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed excitement about the project's progress and potential.
