Iran Plans To Target Undersea Internet Cables In Gulf If Attacked

Times of India · world

Iran has reportedly drawn up plans to target undersea communication cables in the Gulf if attacked by the US and Israel, potentially disrupting internet services and financial transactions. Senior Iranian security officials stated that Tehran would aim to prevent cable repairs to prolong disruptions. This threat follows previous disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz impacting oil supplies. While undersea cables carry most global internet traffic, the impact of attacks in the Strait of Hormuz might be limited as less than 1% of international bandwidth passes through it.
