A 49-year-old German notary has received a two-year suspended prison sentence for forgery and fraud after attempting to steal the €1.2 million estate of an 88-year-old woman. The woman had asked him to draft her will, intending to leave her assets to a monastery, a church, and her neighbours. Instead, the notary altered the document to name himself as the sole heir. He confessed and apologised in court, but judges rejected his claims of financial need, citing his wealth and ruling he acted out of greed.
