Sankalpo Chelmsford in Essex is preparing for its sixth Durga Pujo on October 17-18, focusing on sustainability, inclusion, and community wellbeing. The volunteer-run event, which attracts 1,000-1,200 visitors, will follow the theme ‘Community, Culture, Inclusion and Sustainability’. Eco-friendly practices include reusing a fibreglass idol, using bamboo plates, and composting ritual materials. This year, the festival also offers public health services in collaboration with the NHS, including wellbeing support and vaccinations. Organisers aim to preserve traditions while ensuring environmental responsibility for future generations.
