Godavari River Turns Blue at Polavaram After Monsoon Floods Recede
Times of India · environment
The Godavari river at Polavaram has transformed from a reddish-brown to a striking blue hue as floodwaters recede. This seasonal change, visible since early October, is attributed to a reduction in sediment carried by the river. During the monsoon, heavy rainfall washed red soil and silt into the river, giving it a copper appearance. As rainfall eased and flood intensity decreased, heavier particles settled, making the water clearer and allowing its natural blue colour to become more prominent.
