Delhi Tackles Rs 20,000 Crore Traffic Challan Backlog

Delhi is implementing new strategies to recover pending traffic fines, which amount to a significant backlog nationwide. The Supreme Court suggested integrating unpaid challans with electricity bills to address the issue. In Delhi, traffic challan pendency stands at 73%, with camera-generated notices showing higher non-payment rates than on-the-spot challans. Measures like integrating the e-challan system with Bharat Bill Payment System and sending WhatsApp alerts have reportedly increased payments fivefold. Weekend court hearings are also being introduced to expedite disposal.
