Kolkata Businesses Lose Rs 1 Crore Daily

Kolkata's New Market area is losing an estimated Rs 1 crore daily due to the closure of hotels and lodges following a fatal fire. These businesses, heavily reliant on Bangladeshi customers who accounted for over half of footfall and 60% of sales, have seen a sharp decline in shoppers. Sales had just begun to recover after India resumed tourist visas for Bangladeshis in June-end. The upheaval in Bangladesh and subsequent hotel closures have severely impacted apparel, cosmetics, and dry fruit retailers.

कोलकाता के न्यू मार्केट इलाके में होटलों और लॉज के बंद होने से हर दिन करीब 1 करोड़ रुपये का नुकसान हो रहा है। यह नुकसान एक जानलेवा आग लगने के बाद हुआ है। ये बिज़नेस, जो बांग्लादेशी ग्राहकों पर बहुत ज़्यादा निर्भर थे, जो आधे से ज़्यादा फुटफॉल और 60% बिक्री के लिए ज़िम्मेदार थे, खरीदारों में भारी गिरावट देखी है। जून के आखिर में भारत द्वारा बांग्लादेशियों के लिए टूरिस्ट वीज़ा फिर से शुरू करने के बाद बिक्री में सुधार होना शुरू ही हुआ था। बांग्लादेश में हुई उथल-पुथल और उसके बाद होटलों के बंद होने से कपड़ा, कॉस्मेटिक और ड्राई फ्रूट्स के खुदरा विक्रेताओं पर गंभीर असर पड़ा है।
