Last Rare Cattle Rescued From Remote New Zealand Island After 97 Years
Hindustan Times · environment
Nine cattle were left on New Zealand's Enderby Island in 1896, forming a rare breed that survived for nearly a century. In 1993, a rescue team captured the last adult cow, Lady, and her calf using a net gun and helicopter. While the calf later died, scientists successfully cloned Lady in 1998, ensuring the survival of her unique genetic line. Today, approximately 30 animals from this breed remain, living in small herds.
