Cumbria Uses Waste Plastic To Create Eco-Friendly Roads

Times of India - India · india

Cumbria, England, has pioneered the use of waste plastic in road construction to create more environmentally friendly surfaces. The £200,000 project, completed by MacRebur in September 2017, replaced some bitumen with plastic pellets, diverting materials from landfills. This initiative aimed to reduce the carbon footprint and reliance on oil-based products in road building. The county shared its findings with the Department for Transport, contributing to a wider £22.9 million initiative exploring new highway maintenance technologies.
