IISc Researchers Use ML to Unveil CO2-to-Fuel Conversion Mechanisms

The Hindu · india

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have developed a novel data-driven computational framework to better understand CO2 hydrogenation into fuels. This approach maps nearly 10,000 chemical reactions on a copper catalyst, significantly expanding upon traditional methods that often miss crucial steps. By training machine learning models on quantum-mechanical simulations, the framework accurately predicts methanol and carbon monoxide as major products, aligning with experimental results. This advancement could lead to the design of more effective catalysts for converting carbon dioxide into valuable chemicals and fuels.
