Despite the popularity of weight loss medications like Ozempic, bariatric surgeons continue to treat patients with severe obesity. Dr. Ashish Gautam explains that while medications help some, they may not be sufficient for those with severe obesity and complications to restore metabolic health or improve quality of life. Bariatric surgery remains crucial, especially as India faces a growing obesity burden, with an estimated 35 crore adults having abdominal obesity and 25 crore generalised obesity.
