Odisha's university law amendment has revived the Senate, allowing elected student leaders to join, amidst ongoing debate over student union elections. The amended Odisha Universities Act, 2024, reinstated the Senate, a key authority for academics and finances, which was previously abolished. While the law mandates student union presidents and secretaries as Senate members, universities are currently selecting students from PG departments due to the absence of regular union polls. Student organizations are planning protests to pressure the government for election schedules.
