Ecuadorian opposition leader Luisa Gonzalez has been arrested as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in her 2023 presidential campaign financing. The Attorney General’s Office stated that arrest warrants were executed against three individuals suspected of money laundering, with seven people under investigation for inconsistencies in campaign contributions. Investigators are examining the alleged improper channeling of approximately $500,000 for advertising between May and August 2023. Gonzalez, who lost two presidential elections to Daniel Noboa, has denied wrongdoing and called the accusations absurd.
