In 2003, Mies van der Rohe's iconic Farnsworth House faced the threat of being dismantled and moved from its original Illinois landscape. Potential buyers at auction expressed interest in relocating the modernist structure. The National Trust for Historic Preservation, alongside Landmarks Illinois and John Bryan, intervened to save the house. They successfully purchased it for over $7.5 million at auction, ensuring its preservation on its intended site.
