Lalbaugcha Raja Food Waste Converted To Electricity For Mumbai Hospital
The Better India · lifestyle
Nearly 39 tonnes of food waste from the Lalbaugcha Raja festival in Mumbai has been successfully converted into electricity for a local hospital. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's 'Prasad to Power' initiative collected the leftovers, which were then processed through biomethanation. This process generated 3,645 cubic metres of biogas and 4,382 kWh of electricity, powering Ward 9 of Sewri TB Hospital. Due to processing limitations, excess waste was sent to other hospitals, extending the energy generation benefits across Mumbai's civic healthcare system.
