Yen Slumps After Bank of Japan Rate Hike

The Japanese yen weakened significantly against major currencies after the Bank of Japan announced an expected interest rate hike. The currency fell 0.6% to 156.91 yen per dollar, resuming its slide despite the rate increase to the highest level in over three decades. Two board members dissented from the decision. Japan's core inflation remained steady near the central bank's 2% target in August, indicating persistent price pressures.
