Calcutta Stock Exchange May Reopen After SEBI Review

SEBI is considering the reopening of the century-old CSE. West Bengal government has proposed its revival, but the decision hinges on sufficient trading volume, a sustainable business model, and investment in technology. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kant Pandey stated that any new exchange must meet regulatory and capital requirements. The CSE ceased trading in April 2013 due to SEBI's rule changes regarding clearing corporations. Historically, between 1997 and 2000, the CSE saw higher trading volumes than the BSE.
