Both CPM and CPI have demanded an immediate rollback, urging the state to adopt transparent procurement processes for reasonable tariffs. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam expressed shock at the rate, alleging it allows private players to profit excessively at public expense. CPI state secretary M Veerapandian questioned the fiscal prudence, warning of strain on the power utility's debt and potential tariff hikes for consumers.
