A day after the sole accused in the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Gaighata was killed in a police encounter, his mother has questioned the circumstances of his death. Rekha Das, mother of the accused Prahlad Das, demanded compensation, stating that both the victim and her son lost their lives. She expressed doubt over the police's account, questioning how her son could have snatched a revolver and opened fire when his hands were tied. The family believes Prahlad should have faced a court trial.
