Nine Sandalwood Trees Stolen From Kerala Forest; Inquiry Demanded

Times of India · environment

Nine sandalwood trees were found felled in Kerala's Thekkady forest station limits, with six trees reportedly stolen. Forest officials suspect the timber was transported across the border into Tamil Nadu. This incident follows reports of approximately 30 sandalwood trees being stolen from the Nenmara forest division in the past two months. An environmental trust has urged the state government to order an independent inquiry into the repeated sandalwood thefts and illegal tree felling. They are seeking a review of past cases and accountability for any lapses.
