Nandankanan Zoo Plans Vulture Breeding Expansion, Seeks 10 Pairs From Haryana

Times of India · environment

Nandankanan Zoological Park is planning to expand its vulture breeding program by acquiring at least 10 pairs of vultures from Haryana's Jatayu Conservation Breeding Centre. The zoo currently houses five pairs of long-billed vultures and has requested approval from the Central Zoo Authority for this expansion. This initiative aims to bolster conservation efforts for the critically endangered scavenger bird, as vultures have become locally extinct in Odisha. Nandankanan was designated a vulture conservation breeding facility in 2013 and has since focused on species recovery.
