This appeal comes as a measure to prevent cruelty during Dussehra celebrations, where the bird is often captured, its feathers clipped, and displayed for perceived good luck. Capturing, selling, or exhibiting the Indian Roller is illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
