Meghalaya HC Issues Criminal Contempt Notices To Bar Association Leaders

The Meghalaya High Court has issued criminal contempt notices to office-bearers of two bar associations for calling a judicial work boycott. The boycott, demanding the Advocate General's removal, disrupted the administration of justice and left litigants unrepresented. The court stated lawyers have no right to strike and that courts cannot be used to achieve such objectives. The Bar Council of India has been impleaded, and association leaders must appear on October 13.

मेघालय हाई कोर्ट ने दो बार एसोसिएशन के पदाधिकारियों को न्यायिक कार्य बहिष्कार के लिए आपराधिक अवमानना नोटिस जारी किए हैं। एडवोकेट जनरल को हटाने की मांग को लेकर हुए इस बहिष्कार ने न्याय प्रशासन को बाधित किया और मुवक्किलों को बिना प्रतिनिधित्व के छोड़ दिया। कोर्ट ने कहा कि वकीलों को हड़ताल का कोई अधिकार नहीं है और ऐसे उद्देश्यों को प्राप्त करने के लिए अदालतों का इस्तेमाल नहीं किया जा सकता। बार काउंसिल ऑफ इंडिया को पक्षकार बनाया गया है, और एसोसिएशन के नेताओं को 13 अक्टूबर को पेश होना होगा।
