A 42-year-old driver narrowly escaped unharmed when a scrap SUV he was towing caught fire on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway in Vellore. The blaze reportedly started due to the tyres of the scrap vehicle coming into contact with its metal frame. Motorists alerted the driver, who managed to disconnect the SUV before the fire spread. A six-member fire brigade team battled the flames for nearly an hour, completely gutting the scrap vehicle. Traffic was unaffected by the incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m.
