Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff has pledged greater transparency following outrage over the handling of an alleged 2024 gang rape at a fraternity house. The victim claims she was assaulted by multiple Chi Phi fraternity members and is suing the university and seven former students. New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed State Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor after the initial prosecutor declined to press charges. The case has also highlighted New York's "voluntary intoxication loophole" which complicates prosecution of sexual assaults involving alcohol consumption.
