Low Coal Stocks May Impact India's Power Demand Surge: ICRA
Business Standard · business
Rating agency ICRA warned that declining coal stocks at power plants could limit the sector's ability to meet a sharp surge in peak demand. Coal stock levels are currently around six days, below the normative requirement of 19-20 days, providing a thinner buffer. Despite a 3.2% decline in domestic coal production, supply to the power sector increased by 4% year-on-year. India's electricity demand has seen robust growth, with ICRA now expecting 8.5% demand growth in FY27, up from 6.5% previously.
