Cornell DA Reopens Gang-Rape Case Investigation After Initial Decision Not to Prosecute

The Tompkins County District Attorney, Matthew Van Houten, has reopened an investigation into an alleged sexual assault at Cornell University in October 2024. He previously decided not to prosecute, citing the complainant's initial account which did not explicitly state she was drugged or incapacitated. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, is suing Cornell and seven fraternity members, alleging she was drugged and assaulted at the Chi Phi fraternity house. Cornell University supports the reopened investigation and has taken disciplinary action, including expulsions, against some students.
